- From 1994: Research at UPC on Fractal Antennas.

- 1998: First contacts between CIMNE and UPC for preparing a project proposal.
     o UPC suggests one of the hottest topics: Fractal Antennas.

- 1999: First meeting at UPC between CIMNE, UPC and EPFL.
     o Draft of project objectives: Basic research.
     o “Future and Emergent technologies” IST program:
         2 step evaluation process = Short proposal + full RTD proposal.

- 1999: FRACTUS company founded by former UPC Fractal Antennas research leader Carles Puente.
     o FRACTUS = Fractal antennas R+D and manufacture.
     o Rights to exploit UPC patents granted to FRACTUS.
     o FRACTALCOMS: UPC decision not to include FRACTUS in a basic research project consortium.

- September 2000: FRACTALCOMS consortium created:
  UPC (coordinator), ROME, EPFL, UGR and CIMNE.

- February 2001: Short proposal approved.
  Consortium invited to submit a full proposal.

- June 2001: Full proposal approved.

- August 2001: Contract preparation forms and description of work approved.

- October - November 2001: Contract signed by partners and EC.

- December 1, 2001: Project start date.
