Summary

The seminar will describe the methodology and techniques of image interpretation and object recognition in both optical and radar images, using the medium and high resolution products currently available from LEO satellites.

The EUSC is an Agency under the Council of the European Union. It is one of the key institutions for European Union’s Security and Defence policy, and the only one in the field of space. The mission of the EUSC is to support the CFSP and in particular the ESDP, by providing geospatial intelligence products and services, resulting from the analysis of satellite imagery and collateral data. The EUSC responds to request from different users: the Council of the EU, Member States, the European Commission, Third States and International Organizations such as the UN or NATO. The EUSC provides early warning of potential crises to decision-makers. Furthermore, the Centre offers specialized training to image analysts at the EUSC and from Member States.

Bio

Mr. Juan Luis Valero is a Project Manager and instructor at the EUSC. He has been working in the optimization of information extraction of remote sensing data for decision making, as well as instructor of remote sensing, GIS and Nuclear Non Proliferation. Mr. Valero holds a Master degree in Physics, a Master degree in Business Administration, postgraduate studies in Electrical and Space Engineering. The Project Management Institute certifies him as a Project Management professional. Before joining the EUSC he was with the European Space Agency and the University of British Columbia.
